Biography

Dr Mohammed Alshaleel joined Essex Law School as a Lecturer in September 2017 and was promoted to Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in 2022. He has an LLB from the University of Damascus where he graduated as the Best Student of the Faculty of Law. Mohammed holds an LLM in International Trade Law and a PhD in Law from the University of Essex. He is an Associate Editor of the Manchester Journal of Transnational Islamic Law & Practice. Dr Mohammed has recently published his new book 'The Regulation and Governance of Mutual Funds: UK and US Perspectives on Investor Protection'. In 2017, he launched two Islamic modules: Introduction to Islamic Law and Islamic Banking and Finance Law. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Mohammed has particular interests in international financial law, international trade law and Islamic banking and finance law. He has taught subjects such as Company Law, Islamic Banking and Finance Law, International Trade Law, Introduction to Islamic Law, International Trade Finance Law, International Financial Law, and Contract law. Dr Mohammed has presented papers in several international conferences and has published in reputable international journals in the areas of financial regulations and Islamic banking and finance law. In 2022, Dr Mohammed obtained research funding to work on a big project 'Digitalising International Trade Finance Process: Interrelationships, Constraints and Opportunities'. Dr Mohammed is a member of the Society of Legal Scholars, International Association for Consumer Law, the Essex Finance Centre (EFiC), the International Institute of Social and Economic Sciences and the Arab Lawyers Association. He is also the University Academic Ambassador for Society for Computers.
