Biography
Harkness Fellow at University of California, San Diego (1974-76) I joined the University of Essex in 1976 as Lecturer in Biology, was promoted to Professor in Biology in 1987, and was Head of Department from 1st August 1996 until July 2001 Fulbright Fellow at University of California, Los Angeles (1981-82) Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Research Fellowship at University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana (1988) Visiting Professor at Université Paris-Sud (1993) Fellow of the American Society of Plant Biologists (2007-to date)
