Biography

I am the Security Systems and Building Manager, part of the Security Management Team. I work closely with other colleagues in various departments such as DITS, Estates, and Facilities, to keep the key safety-critical systems running smoothly, such as the CCTV and ANPR systems, our estate-wide two-way radio system, and the SALTO access control system. I regularly liaise with contractors and the capital & development team, reactively and proactively, as well as during the design and implementation of additional expansion of existing services or refurbishments. I have worked at the University since June 2017, when I joined the Security and Campus Safety Team as a Patrol Officer. As a member of our Campus Security Patrol Team for 5 years, I spent time responding to incidents, conducting day to day activities such as patrolling the campus, assisting students and staff as required, monitoring CCTV and ANPR systems, keyholding and conducting reception duties as the first point of contact out of hours and answering general enquiries during core hours. As a member of the Security Team, I have gained a wealth of experience and knowledge in all aspects of our community life and academia. During part of 2020, I took a secondment as the Security Coordinator for Southend and Loughton Campuses. This was a challenging position, as we, as a section took the security provision back in-house and under the umbrella of the Estates Section. This role involved line managing 25 staff members, whilst working with the Security Management Team to enhance the service and increase compliance and best working practises. I took another secondment in mid-2021 where I assisted the Security Management Team with Administrative tasks and basic System Administration such as CCTV, ANPR and the Estates two-way radio system. This became a permanent role of Security Systems and Admin Officer in November 2021. I also assist the whole Security section with administration tasks, along with the Security Management Team, in the day-to-day operational running of the section, whilst focusing strongly on systems, project management, recruitment, and training.
