Profile

Biography

Susan qualified from the Derby School of Occupational Therapy prior to gaining a further management qualification and then a post graduate diploma from Brunel University. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy; a member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council. She has extensive experience working in the acute, intermediate care and rehabilitation settings in the South East of England and East Anglia. Primarily she has worked in care of the elderly with a strong rehabilitation focus. She has also worked with outpatients, in a private health care setting and a Macmillan Unit. More recently, she has worked in a community falls team developing the occupational therapy input to the multidisciplinary service; set up a service in an Accident and Emergency department and just prior to joining the team at the University of Essex, led a Frailty Service in an inpatient setting. Susan has previously worked in education, with those following a part time route to undergraduate qualification in Sussex, and at the University of Essex while providing maternity cover where she contributed to both the undergraduate and post graduate occupational therapy programmes. She also has experience of facilitating practice placements, both as a practice placement tutor and as a practice educator. She has also contributed to an undergraduate nursing degree programme. Susan’s research interests currently lie with how to reintegrate those with a frailty diagnosis back into their community so that they can continue to make a worthwhile contribution without becoming dependent on caring services and working within an emergency setting.
