With a diverse array of research interests, Melisa's expertise are on access to mother and childcare, the promotion of exclusive breastfeeding, migration and health, social determinants of migrant health, health policy advocacy, and mental health. She has worked with various organizations in the development sector, including Southern Hemisphere (South Africa), Jambo Bukoba (Germany), Waumbe Youth Development (South Africa), Black Sole (South Africa), and African Mothers Foundation International (South Africa). Her involvement has primarily centered on initiatives for youth empowerment, keeping girls in school, and health promotion among underprivileged groups.
