Biography

Adiele is a Postgraduate student, and a member of the Clinical Exercise & Rehabilitation Research Cluster (CERC) in the School of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences, University of Essex. His commitment to professionalism in teaching and learning in higher education has earned Professional Development External Examiners (EE), and Fellowship of Higher Education Academy (FHEA) from the Advance HE (UK). Adiele is accredited Personal Trainer Level 3 in addition to his three diplomas in Sports Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and Teacher Education. His clinical experience in Emergency Medical Services has influenced his appreciation of improving patient experience and heathy ageing. From an academic standpoint, Adiele published over 15 peer-reviewed journal articles, reviewed 30+ manuscripts and serves as an Editorial Review Board for the Journal of Patient Experience. His research investigates the effectiveness of co-designed, and evidence-based interventions in improving key health span determinants among older adults in low-and middle-income countries. This research includes the epidemiology of sedentary behaviour and associations with non-communicable disease risks, controlled laboratory studies examining the acute effects of traditional physical activity forms (dance and games) on body composition, cardiometabolic biomarkers, cardiovascular health and the development and evaluation of interventions to reduce sedentary behaviour and increase physical activity in older adults and long-term conditions including frailty and indices of mortality.

Evaluating Community-Based Exercise Interventions to Improve Health Span Determinants in Black Older Adults in a Low- to Middle-Income Country

The world population is aging rapidly, and the burden associated with age-related functional decline has become a key public health concern. Inadequate physical activity and a higher prevalence of non-communicable diseases, the ageing population in LMICs suffers the most, and increasingly burdened healthcare systems. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of co-designed, and evidence-based interventions in improving key health span determinants among Black older adults.
