Biography
Nicolas joined the University of Essex in 2018 as Professor of Management. An economist by background, Nicolas's research and scholarship interests revolve around the promotion and the barriers to social justice and economic, as well as social development in Latin America, the political economy of the region, States' responses to armed conflict and organised crime in the region, armed non-state actors and criminal governance In Haiti, Colombia and Ecuador, non-democratic regimes and issues of social justice. Nicolas is co-director of the Centre for Latin American & Caribbean Studies (CLACS) at the University. He has published in academic journals, and for a variety of audiences in online and professional publications, as well as book chapters. He produces Latin America ¡SinFiltro! on the Substack platform at https://sinfiltroya.substack.com/ Leadership experience Nicolas has 20+ years experience teaching international business, responsible management and business strategy at Undergraduate, Postgraduate and MBA levels, and a rich international experience gained while working in France, the UK, Canada, India, Poland and Colombia. An entrepreneurial academic Nicolas has led and managed teams, strategic projects and ventures at ambitious, university-based business schools. He has designed, developed and repositioned various Master, MBA and dual degree programmes at the Universities of Leeds, Exeter and more recently, the University of Essex where he led the growth and development of The Essex MBA for five years. Nicolas is a member of various Latin American societies and think tanks, in particular Canning House, the leading think tank on Latin America, the Business Association of Latin American Studies (BALAS), and the Society for Latin American Studies (SLAS).
