Population variation in Androgen Response Elements and its impact on prostate cancer risk
Prostate cancer is highly dependent on androgen signalling. Black men experience higher incidence and worse outcomes. This study examines how variations in the Androgen Response Element (ARE) influence gene expression. SNP analysis shows mutations are more common in those of African ancestry, with a 2.9x enrichment. RNA-seq confirms androgen regulation of target genes; ongoing studies assess SNP effects on AR activity, potentially deepening understanding of prostate cancer risk.
