Biography
Kristijan Garic is a PhD student in the Department of Government at the University of Essex. His research focuses on developing new theories and models to identify and measure policy learning by analysing public debates across multiple countries. Kristijan's work explores how changes in policy preferences over time can be captured through the study of policy actors in both governmental and non-governmental organisations, as well as the broader policy subsystems. To achieve this, he employs discourse network analysis, a methodological tool that combines qualitative text analysis with quantitative network analysis, alongside other models such as agent-based models and temporal random graph models. He is also interested in extending the application of network analysis to other fields. In addition to his academic pursuits, Kristijan works as a Survey Data Linkage Officer for Understanding Society, one of the largest longitudinal studies in the world.
