Biography

After graduating from the University of Latakia (Syria) with a BA (1997) in English Language and Literature, I obtained two post-graduate diplomas in Applied Linguistics (1998) and Teacher Training (2000). I then went on to obtain a Masters in TEFL from The University of Essex (2003) and a PhD (2009) in English Language Learning and Teaching from Essex, writing a dissertation on the effects of teachers' beliefs on their classroom practices. Previously, I worked in educational training, and was part of Essex Business School as their Academic Skills Officer. In my currently role in Organisational Development, I support academic and professional services staff through the University's professional recognition framework CADENZA, PG CHEP and the Early Career Teacher Programme. I also lead on a range of projects related to the University Education Strategy and run a series of Education Insights workshops advising and training academic staff. I am responsible for the University's Excellence in Education Award as well as the national awards NTFS and CATE. I am also the lead on Post-graduate Research (PGR) students training and development provisions across the three university faculties and partner institutions. I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2023), a qualified workplace coach from Institute of Leadership and Management, Level 3 (2018) and Mental Health First-Aider MHFA (2016).
