Benjamin Khastan

Biography

Benjamin is a passionate researcher in the field of law who is currently undertaking his doctoral studies at the University of Essex, specialising in the intersection of law and artificial intelligence. With a solid foundation in law, Benjamin completed his undergraduate degree in Law at London Metropolitan University in 2018, where he demonstrated a strong aptitude for legal research. Recognising the importance of furthering his knowledge and expertise, Benjamin pursued a master's degree in law at the University of Warwick, which he successfully obtained in 2021. In 2023, Benjamin embarked on his PhD journey at the University of Essex, driven by a desire to contribute to the understanding and advancement of artificial intelligence within the context of international criminal law. Benjamin is ideally positioned to make significant contributions to the fields of international criminal law and artificial intelligence, and his research promises to have a lasting impact on the pursuit of justice in an increasingly complex world. At present, Benjamin is focused on exploring the application of artificial intelligence (AI) to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in his PhD thesis. Given the growing use of artificial intelligence in a wide variety of fields, including law, this research project is both timely and relevant. His aim is to critically evaluate the potential benefits and risks of incorporating AI into the ICC's operations, particularly in the areas of investigation and evidence gathering.
