Biography

Dr. Wei Liu is a Lecturer in Strategy, Operations, and Entrepreneurship at the Essex Business School. Prior to joining the University of Essex, Wei earned her BBA in Business Administration and gained practical experience working on the country’s project of modern distance education for rural schools in Western China. She subsequently pursued her academic interests in the tourism industry, obtaining an MSc and PhD in Tourism Management from the University of Surrey. During her doctoral studies, Wei conducted research and consultancy projects focused on tourism impact evaluation and tourist demand analysis, deepening her expertise in the field. Wei’s research focuses on strengthening the resilience and robustness of businesses in the tourism, hospitality and events sectors, especially during unprecedented disruptions. With a passion for multidisciplinary studies and innovative methodology, she has been exploring topics such as social entrepreneurship, resilience-building strategies, and the strategic integration of digital transformation and artificial intelligence. Driven by a genuine desire to advance knowledge, she aims to address societal challenges and develop evidence-based interventions to enhance organisational adaptability and long-term sustainability. As a dedicated educator, Wei serves as the Associate Education Director for the group. She is committed to fostering a dynamic, inclusive and supportive learning environment through innovative pedagogical approaches, ensuring that all students feel valued and empowered to thrive academically and personally.
