Profile

Biography

I am a Lecturer in Psychoanalytic Studies and the Director of Education in the Department of Psychosocial and Psychoanalytic Studies at the University of Essex. I joined the department in 2022, bringing extensive teaching experience gained across various countries and with diverse age groups. Before this, I served as a Senior Research Officer on a Wellcome-funded seed project titled The Practice, Politics, and Provision of the Talking Therapies in England Since the 1960s. This project examined the impact of talking therapies on the recognition of mental health as a pressing societal issue. Such recognition has driven significant state investment in psychotherapies in Britain over the past two decades and fostered the emergence of new concepts of selfhood. My primary academic interests lie in the interdisciplinary nature of analytical psychology, particularly its intersections with physics, its applications to emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, and its relevance to critical societal issues like climate change. I am also deeply interested in the history of analytical psychology and the role of talking therapies in shaping and driving societal change. I am drawn to explorations of time, the interplay between mind and matter, intuition, imagination, creativity, theories of consciousness, virtual realities, and the evolving concept of the Self. I welcome proposals for PhDs on topics related to my research interests: • Analytical Psychology and Physics • Historical and Scientific Contexts of Jungian Theories • The Mind-Matter Connection • Perception of Time • Creativity and Intuition • Artificial Intelligence and Theories of Mind • Virtual Realities and the Self
