Biography
Tezzeta is a doctoral researcher at the University of Essex, School of Law. Her thesis concerns the Africanization of the International dispute settlement mechanism in light of the adoption of the AfCFTA Investment Protocol, and is supervised by Dr Stephen Turner and Dr Fikayo Taiwo. Her experience spans across assignments with the civil society, academia, private practice and international organizations for over fifteen years in Africa and globally. With a recent firsthand experience on Investor State dispute settlement (ISDS) reform under the auspices of UNCITRAL, Tezzeta is conversant with international negotiation processes, treaty making and international instrument dissemination . She also has a good understanding of international arbitration procedures under the auspices of the different arbitration institutions. Tezzeta holds an LLM in Environmental and Natural Resource from the University of Oregon in the United States and an LLM in Oil, Gas and Mining Law in the United Kingdom. In addition , she completed several certificate programs in International Arbitration, including a Certificate in International Commercial Arbitration from American University in the United States. Prior to attending Postgraduate school, she earned a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) at the University of Lubumbashi. Award winning lawyer, she was the recipient of several generous grants such as the Fulbright foreign student fellowship from the US Department of States and the University of Essex Inclusivity in research scholarship. She is also part of the Young ITA mentorship program , a program nurturing dispute resolution talents worldwide and the Academy on the African Union Law and the Public Law of Africa organised by the African Institute of International Law.
