Profile
Biography
I have been teaching translation to university students for over three decades. I began my career as a freelance translator and interpreter, simultaneously working on translations while teaching part-time. I have translated content from a wide range of subjects, including academic, medical, commercial, and promotional material. I've been teaching Italian at the University of Essex since 1998. Prior to this, I taught at Reading University, where I obtained my MA in Applied Linguistics, as well as at Kings College London. At the University of Essex, I have taught several modules for undergraduate students, ranging from Intensive Initial to Mastery Italian. Currently, I mainly focus on teaching postgraduate students. In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I am actively engaged in departmental administration as the Education Director. I serve as a staff appraiser and am a member of the leadership committee. I take pride in directing our successful MA program in Translation, Interpreting, and Subtitling. Within this role, I specialize in teaching the Italian-English translation and interpreting strand. I have consistently integrated technology into my teaching practices and currently offer two modules that focus on Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, machine translation, and post-editing. At our institution, we foster a dynamic learning environment and frequently organize extracurricular activities for our students. As part of my dedication to enhancing the experience of postgraduate students in Translation and Interpreting, I have successfully contributed to the development of a range of extracurricular activities. These efforts have led to my recognition for excellence at work over three consecutive years. In addition to my academic contributions in 2023, I have participated in a British Council-funded research project focused on enhancing language learning with employability skills.
