Biography
I am originally from Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk. I studied for my undergraduate degree in History at the University of Suffolk in Ipswich, writing my final year research project about the British response to the Manchurian Crisis in 1931. I first came to Essex in 2017 to study for my Masters and researched Britain's appeasement of Japan during the middle years of the 1930s for my dissertation. I returned to Essex in January 2020 to begin my PhD research, focusing on the post-war foreign policy of the Attlee Labour Government in South-East Asia. My PhD research has brought me into a whole new field of history, dealing with decolonisation and Britain's declining global power after the Second World War. From October 2021 I have been an Assistant Lecturer with the Department of History. Since October 2022 I have also been an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Government. From January 2024 I am module director for HR104 Resisting Empire.
