Profile
Biography
Uri has an extensive career as a performer, director and mentor working in theatre, dance, film and TV. He has appeared in major British theatres including The Royal Court, BAC, Sadler's Wells, and The Arts Theatre West End, and collaborated with leading companies including The RSC, The National Theatre Studio, Gecko and The Clod Ensemble. He has appeared in films by major directors such as Sam Mendes, Michael Winterbottom, Jose Pedilha and The Brothers Quay. He has also appeared in TV, on radio, and in TV commercials worldwide. His award-winning Theatre Company ‘Tottering Bipeds’ toured to many venues in Britain, including The Lyric Hammersmith, Sheffield Crucible, Edinburgh Traverse, and Plymouth Theatre Royal. The company toured abroad extensively, and their work was filmed for a dedicated BBC2 documentary titled 'United Kingdom Tottering Bipeds'. Uri has taught actors in London, New York, Shanghai, Amsterdam, Madrid, Nicosia, and Tel-Aviv. He also worked as an acting coach for CBBC, and as a movement director for several theatre companies including ‘The Royal Shakespeare Company’ and ‘Graeae’. Before joining East 15 he worked a number of years as a documentary film maker, for The BBC, Channel 4, and The Discovery Channel USA. His eclectic training includes The Drama Studio London, École Philippe Gaulier Paris, Monika Pagneux, Pierre Byland, Desmond Jones Physical Theatre School, and the National Film & Television School. He has devoted himself to the research and development of emergence methodology for training creative actors. He designed and cultivated East 15’s BA (Hons) Acting and Contemporary Theatre Course (CT), a pioneering training ground renowned as a creative hub generating award-winning original work.
