Fintech
Equity crowdfunding has emerged as a novel source of funding for startups via internet platforms that complements angel and venture capital financing. It is one of the few Fintech developments that is not banking or payments based. ICOs (initial coin offerings) are another such phenomenon but are quite distinct from equity crowdfunding.
Behavioural finance
Prospect theory provides new insights about investor behaviour such as a preference for lottery stocks or the tendency to gamble to cover losses. Misvaluation theory implies that the the market-to-book ratio can have a misvaluation (eg overvaluation driven by sentiment in hot markets) as well as a growth component.
