The Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Imaging pathway has been developed to provide students with access to high quality education in musculoskeletal ultrasound and to respond to the requirements of an external accreditation group – The Consortium for the Accreditation of Sonographic Education (CASE).

A CASE accredited pathway must include evidence of several clinical components. Firstly as assessment of competency assessment, this is completed in the Postgraduate Certificate Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Imaging pathway.

Secondly, students must provide evidence that they have continued musculoskeletal scanning, there is no requirement for competency to be evaluated again. This Clinical Skills Experience – Scanning Record provides evidence of students’ ongoing engagement with the modality.

The scanning record requirement is a component of the Postgraduate Diploma or MSc Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Imaging. Students who have completed the components of the Postgraduate Certificate Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Imaging will have passed summative assessments confirming clinical competency.

Whilst enrolled on the component modules of the Postgraduate Diploma and MSc, students must be able to demonstrate they are continuing to scan and are therefore maintaining their clinical skills.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this module, you will be able to:

  • demonstrate evidence of musculoskeletal ultrasound imaging to maintain previously assessed clinical skills.
