Apprenticeships are not just for young people, nor are they only relevant for entry level roles.

We currently have around 50 staff members, from a range of departments, undertaking a variety of level 2 to level 7 apprenticeships as part of our Employee Apprenticeship scheme. Their 12 months+ programmes, mainly funded through our employer levy pot, are supporting them to develop their knowledge, skills, behaviours and occupational competence in the workplace, in areas such as data, accounting, professional coaching, business administration, catering and management.

During National Apprenticeship Week, which is taking place from 10 to 16 February, we are keen to raise awareness of the upskilling opportunities that our internal scheme can provide and we have asked some of the approved training providers that we work closely with to talk about apprenticeships in general and some of their programmes:

  • Colchester Institute – CI apprenticeships (incl levels 2, 3 & 4 finance): Tuesday 11 February, 1.00pm to 1.45pm
  • IODA – management apprenticeships (level 3 to level 7): Wednesday 12 February, 12.15pm to 1.00pm
  • Multiverse – data apprenticeships: Thursday 13 February. 12.15pm to 1.00pm
  • BPP – higher level finance apprenticeships, project management and coaching professional apprenticeships : Friday 14 February, 1.15pm to 2.00 pm

If you’d like to find out more, please sign up and come along to one of our ‘no obligation’ information sessions, by emailing employeeapprenticeshipscheme@essex.ac.uk, stating which session you wish to book a place on and an idea of the apprenticeship standard(s) you might be interested in.

Please sign up by Friday 7 February if you can, as some of the planned information sessions may need to be cancelled if the numbers are too small.

Remember, line management support, including for the required average of six hours per week off the job training hours for the practical period of any apprenticeship, is essential and our apprenticeship eligibility criteria will apply.
