"Studying at Essex allowed me to break barriers and pursue my passion in an inclusive environment.”
According to Shanie, Essex's football community stands out as the most inclusive she has ever been a part of. The friendships within the team and shared passions with her professors has fostered an environment where diversity not only acknowledged but also celebrated.
As an international student from Canada, Shanie encourages others to: "Stay open-minded and immerse yourself in another country’s culture." The multicultural nature of Essex provides a unique, environment for enriching experiences, room for personal growth and better overall university journey.
Looking ahead, Shanie's ultimate career goal is to become a sport psychologist. " I want to provide the support and help that athletes might need to stay mentally healthy and maintain a good relationship with their sport" she shares, highlighting the importance of mental well-being in sports.
For those contemplating a journey into the UK football scene while pursuing higher education, Shanie's experiences serve as a beacon of inspiration.
