For an applicant looking to top-up an undergraduate degree to obtain an Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) accreditation or Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) approval, please read the below guidance for the modules you can take to supplement your studies.

The current Biomedical Science degree modules that provide accreditation include the following list:

• BS223: Immunity in Health and Disease (15 credits)
• BS235: Medical Microbiology (15 credits)
• BS236: Haematology and Blood Transfusion (15 credits)
• BS237: Clinical Biochemistry (15 credits)
• BS238: Cellular Pathology (15 credits)
• BS306: Issues in Biomedical Science (15 credits)
• BS310 Principles of Molecular Virology (15 credits)
• BS312: Genome Bioinformatics (15 credits)
• BS320: Human Molecular Genetics (15 credits)
• BS326: Molecular and Developmental Immunology (15 credits)
• BS329: Narcotics (15 credits)
• BS331: Stem Cell Biology and Ageing (15 credits)
• BS332: Biomembranes and Bioenergetics (15 credits)
• BS349: Molecular Basis of Cancer (15 credits)

Please note: to be eligible for HCPC membership, after you have completed the Top Up modules, you will also be required to work in a hospital setting and complete the Registration Training Portfolio.

Identifying the modules you require to get accreditation

Once you have had your previous/current degree assessed by the IBMS, you will need to identify which modules we offer on a CPD basis that most closely match the core areas you require learning in.

Scheduling your top-up modules

Multiple top-up modules can be taken full-time or part-time, and attended according to the BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science timetable. An indicative expectation of attendance is three hours per week for each module.
