The second edition of the Essex PhD Conference in Applied Economics took place on 15th and 16th April 2024 at the Colchester Campus of the University of Essex. The event was generously supported by the Department of Economics at Essex, the Institute for Social and Economic Research (ISER), and the South East Network for Social Sciences (SeNSS). The call for papers attracted an enthusiastic response, particularly from PhD students across the UK and Europe. The final programme included 12 full presentations and nine ‘flash’ presentations, all held in person over the two days. Session topics covered a wide range, including health and crime, urban economics, gender and racial inequality, and development and policy (2nd Essex PhD Conference in Applied Economics | University of Essex). The keynote addresses were delivered by Professor Christian Dustmann from University College London, and Professor Thomas Cornelissen from the University of Essex.
