Hear from our Malaysian students and alumni

Malaysian alumni Cheah Wai Kit
I was looking for a research-led experience and that’s what attracted me to Essex. The Economics department’s degree structure has been designed to maximise flexibility in module choices, allowing me to choose from a wide range of modules and shaping my degree to suit my particular areas of interest. Moreover, the incredible feeling of community at Essex makes it impossible for anyone not to get involved! My participation in societies and volunteering really helped me to enhance my employability skills and enrich my time at Essex. My Essex experience indeed proved invaluable in securing my graduate role at United Overseas Bank (UOB) in Malaysia!
Cheah Wai Kit BSC ECONOMICS, 2013
What attracted me to studying at Essex was the fact that it has everything on campus and also that it is located in parkland. Throughout the three years of my degree I have lived in campus accommodation, and I always have been satisfied with it.  I have made friends with students in my lectures and my classes. I have joined many students’ societies like the International-Japan society, the Islamic Society, The Malaysian Society and the Accounting, Finance and Management Society.

Being able to study with Essex Law School at the University of Essex was truly an unforgettable experience. Not only are all the lecturers experts in their research which truly affirms Essex for its excellence in research, but they also strove to perform at their best, equipping the students with relevant and applicable skills for their future endeavours. Since graduating I have now enrolled in the Certificate of Legal Profession course back in Malaysia and began my internships with various different legal institutions. Without my degree, this would not have been possible and it is thanks to all the wonderful opportunities, legal workshops and various supporting platforms at Essex that I am where I am today.
