A taste of the seaside

As food is, of course, the most important thing in life, you'll be pleased to know that there are plenty of tasty menus to choose from in Southend, including our famous fish and chips.

Food and drink in Southend

Hamlet Court Road area

Taste a world of flavours in this area with a wealth of independently-owned eating outlets from countries around the world including China, Italy, Greece and India.

Maxwells

Probably the busiest place in Southend at lunchtime, and with so much choice of sandwiches, pasta, bagels, paninis and jacket potatoes, you won't know what to do with yourself.

Ginos

Sitting opposite Maxwells, lunchtime in Southend is always going to be a decision-making process, especially with Gino's in the mix where you can build your own sarnie.

Dub Kitchen

Authentic Jamaican patties, curried goat and jerk chicken wraps are the order of the day, offering flavour and spice at a reasonable price.

Van Looy's Fish and Chips

Living in a coastal city means you simply must check out Britain's national dish of traditional fish and chips.  To do it justice, its got to be wrapped in paper with loads of salt and vinegar and eaten with a wooden fork. Dont forget the mushy peas!  Van Looy's is a popular choice and close to campus.
