The rankings once again underline our international outlook and research strengths.
We are 21st for international outlook due to the diversity of our student and academic community plus international partnerships.
We’re also once again in the top 300 for research seeing our performance increase across publications per staff, the ratio of research income to academic staff, citations and research reputation.

Essex is ranked in the 251-300 bracket of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020 include almost 1,400 universities across 92 countries, standing as the largest and most diverse university rankings ever to date. The rankings are based on 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators that measure an institution’s performance across teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.
