Biography

Fikayo is a lecturer at Essex Law School focusing her research on international law and commercial dispute resolution. Her PhD research, which was fully funded by the University of Essex Doctoral Scholarship, examined the intersection between access to justice and international arbitration. Prior to resuming her PhD at Essex, Fikayo was admitted as a first-class barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and subsequently gained broad experience in business law and commercial dispute resolution practice, and executed legal compliance related functions as an associate with top tier Nigerian law firms including Aluko & Oyebode. She was part of teams responsible for resolving complex legal issues in areas including arbitration, telecommunications law and debt recoveries on behalf of both private and government clients. She also obtained a distinction on a Master’s degree in International Commercial Law from University College London where she was awarded the John Carr Scholarship for Students from Africa and the Caribbean as well as the 8 New Square LLM Prize for Excellence in the Law of Copyright and Designs. In addition, she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Lagos where she graduated in the top five percentile of her class.
