High performance computing

We provide a specialist high performance computing service for staff and students.

In some circumstances, access can be granted to external collaborators working with current staff.

How to access

Step 1. Register an account

You must register for an account before you can use it. Please email snewman@essex.ac.uk with the following information:

• Your full name
• Your department
• Your Essex email address
• Your Essex username
• If you're registering for a research collaborator, please also provide their name, email address and department/company.
  
   

Step 2. Connect to the VPN service

Once you've been given access, you will need to connect to the University's VPN service to be able to access the HPC website, http://hpc.essex.ac.uk. This website contains all the information you need to get started.

Step 3. Set up multifactor authentication (MFA)

The HPC Cluster now requires multifactor authentication (MFA) to log in. You will be asked to set up MFA for the HPC cluster the first time you log in. Please note this is in addition to the MFA you may already have set up for Office 365 services.
