Attending a Student Conduct Committee

What to expect

  • You will receive an email from the Student Conduct Team (studentconduct@essex.ac.uk) with a letter confirming that you have been invited to attend a Student Conduct Committee.
  • The team will over the course of arranging the committee provide you with the following information:
    • the names of the people selected to be on the panel for the committee, this gives you the opportunity to object to any members due to a conflict of interest if necessary.
    • date, time and Zoom link for your meeting with the Secretary which will usually take place a few days before the committee. This gives you the opportunity to speak to the Secretary about any questions regarding the procedure. Please note, the secretary cannot answer any questions related to the case that do not relate to the procedure as they are not a panel member.
    • date, time and Zoom link for the Committee. Please be aware that for very complex cases the Committee can be expected to take between 10am - 5pm.
    • a link to Box that is available to everyone in the Committee as it will include all relevant documents and evidence for your case. Please ensure you read through all the files available.
  • If you would like to bring support services to the Committee, such as a member of the Wellbeing Team or SU Advisor, then you will need to contact them and provide the details of the Committee for them to attend.

Feedback about your experience

If you have feedback during the investigation, then you can speak with the SU Advice Centre, Wellbeing Team or the Student Conduct Team for further advice.

After the investigation is complete, you will be sent an email from the Student Conduct Team that will give you the opportunity to provide feedback on your experience.
