The Essex Collection of Art from Latin America (ESCALA) is based at our Colchester Campus and includes over 700 artworks from Latin America.
ESCALA opened with founding donation by Brazilian student Charles Cosac in 1994. The collection is integral to teaching at the University of Essex, where students from a range of departments work hands on with artworks, including Art History, Language and Linguistics, and Human Rights.
ESCALA joins forces with a number of academics from across campus for lunchtime talks that allow new perspectives and approaches to issues raised in artworks from the collection to be explored.
ESCALA’s exhibitions are hosted by the University's gallery Art Exchange.
