How to find us

Home to the University of Essex, Colchester Campus, Wivenhoe Park sits on the outskirts of Colchester Town and the entrance to Wivenhoe Town. Accessible via foot, car, bus or train the park boasts a number of features to enjoy a relaxing day amongst stunning scenery, lakes and wildlife.

Sports and recreation

As well as providing space throughout the park for an array of sporting activities, Wivenhoe Park is also the home of a short 9 and full 18 Disc Golf basket course which featured in the World Team Disc Golf Championship in August 2017 

On the outskirts of the park also sits the Essex Sport Arena, and other sporting facilities provided by Essex Sport, including the gym available for membership use by the public, university staff and students.

Do's and Don'ts

  • Dogs must be kept on leads at all time and cleaned up after should they foul. Dog waste bins can be found throughout the park.
  • BBQs are not permitted on anywhere within the park other than in the designated area by the lakes. This is available to book for University of Essex staff and students via the Estates and Facilities Helpdesk.
  • Cycling is permitted within the park, however there are certain cycling rules we require you to follow whilst on our campus.
  • For the safety and wellbeing of our University community, we have a pedestrian-only zone on our central campus.
  • Recreational use of drones and other small unmanned aircrafts by staff, students and members of the public is not permitted anywhere within Wivenhoe Park or the University grounds.
