The University Strategy sets out our ambition to grow, thrive and to advance our mission of excellence in education and research, for the benefit of individuals and communities. Our staff are at the centre of the University’s success and it is essential we continue to attract, recruit and retain talented staff to enhance our strategic ambition. This policy outlines the University’s approach to recruiting the best candidates, promoting equality of opportunity and complying with relevant legislation.
Full details regarding the recruitment process can be read in Resourcing Guidance (.pdf) and Underpinning Framework (.pdf).
The recruitment and selection process (for permanent posts and fixed-term posts of 6 months+) can be split into four sections:
The recruitment process starts when a vacancy arises, either when an existing job holder moves on or when a new post has been approved. All Professional Services posts that are new or have been altered significantly will need to go through the HERA process. A Senior Employee Relations Adviser will contact you if there is anyone in the redeployment pool who should be considered for the vacancy.
When preparing to recruit you should:
The first stage in assessing your candidates is to undertake shortlisting following the post close date. The next stage is to interview the shortlisted candidates. You should also consider undertaking additional assessment methods (.docx) to make the process as robust as possible.
Once you have selected a candidate, an offer of employment can be made. For Professional Services posts you will need to contact the Resourcing Adviser prior to contacting the successful candidate.
Once the offer has been made, you should complete the online appointment form.
