This seminar focuses on exploring the logics behind using FDA and ethnography in research, providing a general overview of these approaches, as well as a discussion on how they were made practical in a recent research into community arts work in Wales.

Speaker

Rey Shakirzhanov is a Lecturer in Human Resource Management (HRM) and Organisational Behaviour and a Deputy Programme Director for BSc Business Management at Swansea University.

Rey teaches across a wide range of subjects related to areas of Work and Employment, HRM, and Organisational Behaviour. Rey's research is focused on shedding light on the nature of contemporary forms of work and employment. He is currently involved in exploring the nature of work and subjectivity within the domain of cultural work, with a particular focus on the discourses of 'enterprise' in community arts practice in Wales. He also collaborates internationally with leading academics within the field of Industrial Relations, focusing his research on questions of self-employment and workplace insecurity in the gig economy.

Previously, Rey worked extensively in the global supply chain and logistics industry, which fuelled his deep interest in understanding social dynamics in non-standard forms of employment and raising awareness of labour conditions in the contemporary workplace.
