Applying for accommodation

New postgraduates October 2024 start

What you need to do

  • If we receive your application form before the deadline of 13 September 2024 you will be guaranteed accommodation.
  • If we receive your form after the deadline of 13 September 2024 you will be offered accommodation as soon as a room becomes available.

Full details of your accommodation offer will be sent to you by email. We endeavour to start sending offers out from late March 2024. An accommodation advanced rent payment is no longer required at the point of application. Instead, it will be payable when you accept your offer.

Your offer of accommodation will be emailed to the address you supplied with your application to study at the University (or your @essex.ac.uk email address, if you have one) and will contain details about your room and the accommodation charges. You will have a limited time to accept your offer of accommodation so it is very important that you check this email account regularly throughout the entire summer.

British Council sponsored students

New undergraduates October 2024 start

What you need to do

Using the Book Now service, you will reserve your room and accept that room offer immediately, without having to wait for a offer to be sent to you. 

Information about your accepted offer of accommodation will be emailed to the address you supplied to UCAS (or your @essex.ac.uk email address, if you have one) and will contain details about your room and the accommodation charges.

   

Returning student late booking accommodation 

What you need to do

Once your application has been submitted, we will contact you as soon as we are able to offer you accommodation.

Room details and charges will be emailed to your University of Essex email address. 

Late booking accommodation is non-guaranteed accommodation and we cannot confirm exactly if or when we will be able to offer you a room.

 

North West Partnership

What you need to do

In order to be made an offer of accommodation before the beginning of the summer term, you need to return your online application.

You must do this before the deadline.

We will begin allocating accommodation from early spring and all applicants will receive their offers by the start of the summer term. Please make sure you check your email account regularly for your offer.

Accepting your offer

You will need to accept your offer of accommodation before its expiry date in order to confirm your allocation for the next academic year. The offer expiry date will be clearly specified in the offer letter.

Once you have accepted the offer you have formed a contract which is binding and you will not be able to give notice on the room unless you withdraw from the University.

  

Returning undergraduates and postgraduates

What you need to do

In order to be made an offer of accommodation before the beginning of the summer term, you need to return your online application.

Undergraduate students must complete the application by 12 May, to qualify for the £400 cashback.

There will be a number of non-guaranteed rooms available for returning undergraduates and postgraduates and allocations will be made on a first-come-first-served basis. We appreciate you would like to know if you have been successful as soon as possible. We will begin allocating in straight away.

 Please make sure you check your email account regularly for your offer.

Accepting your offer

January undergraduate and postgraduate applicants

What you need to do


Postgraduate

There will be limited accommodation available at both Colchester and Southend Campuses for all full-time postgraduate students who are starting their course in January 2024.

Once your application has been submitted we will contact you as soon as possible and confirm whether or not we are able to offer you accommodation for January 2024. 

Any offer of accommodation we are able to make will be emailed to the address you supplied with your application to study at the University and will contain details about your room and the accommodation charges. You will have a limited time to accept your offer of accommodation so it is very important that you check this email account regularly. Please also note that an Advanced Rent Payment of £250 will be payable when you accept your accommodation offer. 

Undergraduate

There will be limited accommodation available at both Colchester and Southend Campuses for all full-time undergraduate students who are starting their course in January 2024.

Terms and conditions

If you accept your accommodation offer you will be entering into a legal contract with Accommodation Essex and you will be liable to pay the rent for your room for the period stated on your offer letter.

Please read our Terms and Conditions of Residence carefully before accepting any offer of accommodation. Contact your Student Services Hub if you have any queries.

If you have a debt to the University

Students who have a debt to the university will not be made an offer of accommodation until the debt is cleared. You will be notified if this is the case and be given an opportunity to make payment to clear this debt.

If this is not received then we may not be able to proceed with your application.
