What’s My Brand?
Snapping the Stiletto asked the Girl Guides the question ‘What does Identity mean to you?’. They examined Tudor portraits to see what Queen Elizabeth I wanted to convey in her portraits, and wanted to consider what her ‘brand’ was.
The Guides then thought about what made them, them. The Guides came up with a variety of different answers from ‘what you love’ to ‘being proud of what you have achieved’, ‘what you look like’. Vicci Button worked with the Guides to establish what made them the people they are and what did they value the most. Over 4 workshops Vicci taught them how to create our own images and morph them into what they valued most. They also learned about the concept of Brand and Brand identity.
At the end of the workshops they revisited the question ‘what makes you, you?’ and the answers had changed slightly. The Guides considered discussed whether they looked like was important. They decided that while your appearance could express your identity, no-one should be judged on the way they looked.
The Guides were able to use the skills they learned during the workshops at home in their spare time, in school, for the Girl Guide’s Earth Day projects and also impressively for processing difficult emotions.
The animations they made are below.
Logos and Brands
Vicci worked with the Girl Guides exploring brands and what logos we would represent us.
The Guides made some mini icons and animated them with impressive results. They talked about how branding is similar to portraits and is a short cut to identifying what you stand for. The Guides used the questions ‘what makes you happy’ and ‘what does hope look like to you’ as inspiration for creating their logos.
Vicci also taught them about ‘empty space’ design and the use of colour to make our designs stand out.
