Wednesday 2 April (16.00pm - 17.00pm)
What is learning and why can it be so difficult to achieve? Why do we sometime resist learning? This session will address the nature of learning, comparing it with concepts of training and education. It will describe common defences against learning, and show how the struggles pupils’ face are based in early transitional experiences which leave a lasting impression and evoke powerful feeling during later transitions. This talk will be especially helpful for professional and school-based staff who regularly deal with pupils who can be hard to reach, or who avoid the challenge of learning. This session will be delivered by Dr. Chris Nicholson from our Department of Psychosocial and Psychoanalytic Studies.
