Health Partnerships in Action – Seminar Series

The Health Partnerships in Action seminar series is jointly hosted by the IPHW and ISER (the Institute for Social and Economic Research). Key local stakeholders representing important regional public health organisations and those with health-related priorities, come to the University of Essex to present and discuss key priority areas of need, their strategies, ongoing collaborations and partnership opportunities.

Colleagues from across all three Faculties, including the University’s Institutes and Centres, with an interest in health research (broadly defined), are invited to hear key external partners and stakeholders discuss their priorities and mission. The sessions also have a key aim of facilitating networking among colleagues and key stakeholders. University colleagues have the opportunity to reflect on the stakeholder seminars and discuss opportunities for collaboration and partnership.

Formerly Director of Wellbeing, Public Health and Communities at Essex County Council.

Lucy discussed "Everyone's Essex - Essex County Council health priorities for levelling up."

21st September 2023: Anna Crispe

Consultant in Public Health and Assistant Director, Knowledge, Intelligence & Evidence, Suffolk County Council.

Anna discussed "Data for Action – the future of Public Health"

5th December 2023: Ed Garratt

Chief Executive of the NHS Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care Board.

Ed discussed "The 'Essex Way' of integrated care: Building compassionate leadership in our local system".

16th May 2024: Sam Glover

Chief Executive, Healthwatch Essex.

Sam is discussing the vision and mission of Healthwatch Essex, the work and projects it is leading, and the significant impact of its activities, with a discussion of possible future opportunities for collaboration and partnership.

3rd September 2024: Preeti Sud and Tony Young

Preeti Sud is Director of Strategy and Innovation, Strategy Unit, Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust. Tony Young is National Clinical Lead for Innovation NHS England; and Consultant Urological Surgeon and Associate Medical Director Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust.

They will discuss key priority areas of need, strategies and priorities, and ongoing/ possible future collaborations, partnership and research opportunities.

Centre for Coastal Communities seminar series

This seminar series will bring together researchers either looking at coastal community topics or conducting research in a coastal community.

The seminar series will be hybrid, with an opportunity to join in-person or online.

20th November 2024 - Researching marginalised communities; ARISE

Professor Ewen Speed from the School of Health and Social Care will be speaking on 'Researching with marginalised communities from an inclusive involvement perspective', and Professor Gina Reinhardt from the Department of Government will discuss the ARISE Initiative.

Professor Avril Keating and Dr Sam Whewall, from University College London, will present, 'The push and pull of place: the role of local employment opportunities in youth mobility aspirations in coastal towns in England.'

Dr Paul Mee from the Lincoln International Institute for Rural Health at the University of Lincoln will be speaking on ‘Commonalities and differences between the Lincolnshire coast and Essex coasts and how our two institutions can work together to address challenges in our coastal communities.’
