Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs - Students

Can study-time be included in my total hours?

Yes, as long as it is used to carry out placement related activities (case-studies, research, reflections etc.)

Where can I find the supervision logs and case-study guidance?

They are all included in the appendices of the Placement Handbook.

Do I have to attend placement at weekends?

We encourage students to follow the placement working pattern if they are able, as this provides a varied and true learning experience. However, it is not compulsory for you to work at weekends or other shift patterns.

How do I know who my educator and visiting tutor are?

The details of these will be available on PEMS as appropriate. If you cannot find them please liaise with the placement team.

FAQs - Educators

What is the best way to contact someone if I have a query or concern?

As a team we run a duty service while students are out on placement. A member of the team will be allocated each day to receive phone calls and support educators accordingly.

Please contact the Placement administration office by email (practiceplacements@essex.ac.uk) or call 01206 874312 and they will refer you to the allocated member of teaching staff.

How do I submit the students completed paperwork?

Please email the completed assessment form to the ipl email address on the front page of the document and ensure that the student also uploads a copy to Faser (their on-line submission portal).
