Central to our teaching and extensively support professional-level production, learn in a practical environment using our range of specialist facilities to help develop your skills.

The Media Centre

Get hands on experience using our HD cameras, professional editing facilities, a film library and a dedicated cinema for showcasing your work. Team up with fellow students or manage solo projects yourself to diversify your skillset and gain knowledge from staff with different levels of expertise. The Media Centre is fully equipped with cameras, audio and lighting gear, which give you experience using film production software including Avid, Final Cut, and Pinnacle. 

Our film screening facilities

At Colchester campus, a 120-seater theatre is dedicated in giving you a chance to experience a wide range of cinema not just by your own level of study through weekly film screenings of various genres. Showcasing our very own student's film project and talks hosted by academics, visiting filmmakers, the University's Film Society and other departments, you get to expand your knowledge and join others with the same passion.

Our newsroom, television and radio studios

Our journalism students have the opportunity of working in a purpose-built Newsroom, with access to television, and radio studios with built-in computer industry-standard editing software to create and polish content across all media and platforms. Specialist cameras, audio equipment and green screen facilities are also available for use to allow students to experiment with their projects, develop their skills and expand their creativity.

Martin Bright has worked for over 30 years in journalism on national newspapers and magazines. His exposé in The Observer inspired the 2019 film "Official Secrets," which was named Political Film of the Year at the 2020 Cinema for Peace Awards.
