Bridging the knowledge gap

There are a range of resources for research staff who wish to learn more about how to engage with the public or build partnerships with policymakers across regional and national governments.

These resources range from professional development opportunities and tools to help you track and measure impact, through to regular newsletters and and specialist guidance.

Research impact toolkit

The Research Impact Toolkit provides a suite of tools and resources to support you with engagement, knowledge exchange and impact. There are a number of routes through which researchers and academics can engage with policymakers at a local, national and international level. Find out more about engaging with the UK Government and Parliament, local Government, the Devolved Legislatures and International Governments and organisations.

Impact academy

Impact Academy provides training and development opportunities to improve your understanding of research impact and build your skills to maximise the societal, economic and environmental impact of your research.

Funding opportunities for public and policy engagement

The Centre for Public and Policy Engagement (CPPE) Engagement Fund supports Essex academic and research staff to explore opportunities to engage public and policy audiences with their research.

Small grants are available to support travel, engagement activities and events, which will target specific audiences from the public, policy and third sectors, and produce tangible impacts.
