As a University of Essex employee, you could be offsetting some of your salary in exchange for a brand new car through our new salary sacrifice scheme.

It is an easy way to lease a car though CPC Drive (working in partnership with Tusker), an inclusive motoring package which has been designed with the public sector in mind, to help employees make more of their money.

The scheme offers employees of the University, UECS Ltd and Wivenhoe House Hotel Ltd, the opportunity to lease a car through a salary sacrifice arrangement.

The package also includes:

  • MOT;
  • routine servicing;
  • RAC breakdown cover;
  • replacement tyres;
  • annual road tax;
  • fully comprehensive car insurance.

It’s also a great way to help reduce carbon emissions by choosing either an electric, hybrid or low emission petrol car. And, if you’re leasing an Electric Vehicle (EV), you can also benefit from home-charging installation at no additional cost.

The amount you pay will depend on which car you choose, but this amount will be taken directly from your salary before you pay income tax, helping to make it more affordable.

The scheme is open to all staff who have passed their probation, have one year of continuous service and a contract that covers the period of the hire agreement.

Championing more sustainable travel and transport

Cutting carbon emissions is a vital and central aspect of reducing our impact on the environment and we’re committed to minimising the carbon and environmental impact of our travel and transport activities.

Our community’s daily commute contributes directly to our scope 3 emissions and environmental impact, and this scheme is a great way for us to help staff chose a more sustainable mode of transport.

Through savings on tax and National Insurance, you can get into a brand-new EV for less money than a petrol or diesel equivalent on the scheme.

Although you will need to pay Benefit in Kind, the government has agreed to keep these rates low for EVs to help more people make the switch. The rates are being held at 2% until April 2025, then increasing by 1% each year until April 2028.
