Prehabilitation or prehab means preparing for treatment or surgery in whatever time you may have available before the intervention happens.

Examples of where prehabilitation may include those undergoing orthopaedic surgery, such as a hip or knee replacement, chemotherapy or radiotherapy for cancer treatment or a variety of surgical interventions for different health conditions.

Our team of therapy students can offer you an individualised programme of support, to work on your physical activity, strength and conditioning before your treatment and we can then offer ongoing rehabilitation as you start your recovery journey. We can also advise about equipment and aids that may be beneficial to you in the early stages of recovery and strategies around pacing and pain management to make your recovery as quick as possible.

The team will adapt your programme activities based on your personal needs. Undergoing prehabilitation can help you feel more in control of your health and achieve better long-term health outcomes.

To access this service, please email to healthwellbeingcare@essex.acx.uk and a member of the team will be in touch to discuss your referral.
