With the sustainability team reminding us all of the importance of looking after our planet and the big drive to promote key messages throughout Environment Week (15th March), here at the nursery we are doing what we can to support these messages.
We have been successful in achieving a recent grant application from the local authority to help contribute towards reducing plastic waste within the university grounds. We already provide our school leavers with their own reusable drinks cup and give every child starting the nursery a reusable tote bag to bring their spare clothes in to nursery.
We have always been resourceful and the children always enjoy recycling other people’s paper and plastic waste to turn it into wonderful works of art!
But now, we have grant money to buy all our little foresters some child sized litter pickers, gloves and high-vis jackets to pick up any plastic bottles and rubbish dropped around campus.
We had a trial run last week and the children all agree they would rather use the grabbers than their little hands so can’t wait for the additional resources to arrive. The grounds team are just as pleased with our grant success, they are always happy to have our mini volunteers join forces with them!
Look out for us around the University grounds and help us by thinking carefully before you drop litter. We have to work together to make a difference and keep our air clean, our oceans plastic free and our environment a wonderful place to be.
