The University has agreed to become an accredited Living Wage Employer and to accelerate the date from which the latest Voluntary Living Wage rate is paid.  The latest rate of £10.90 per hour, announced by the Living Wage Foundation in September, will be applied from 1 January 2023 for employees of the University, UECS Ltd and Wivenhoe House Hotel Ltd.

In taking the decision to become an accredited Living Wage employer and for the latest rates to be applied with effect from 1 January each year, the University is providing certainty for colleagues in our lowest paid roles that the rates set by the Living Wage Foundation will be implemented annually.  In the current year, the move will result in pensionable pay increasing for employees and on-demand workers at the University on spinal points 3-9, who are currently paid below the latest Living Wage rate.  Revised pay scales will be available on the University’s website in due course.

This move is part of a wider cost of living campaign that the University hopes will help staff during the current crisis. Further staff benefits are available on our website.
