Works impacting lifts 

Date Location Details
10 March - 04 April 2025 L83 lift, Life Science Building
 The lift is out of service for essential control and equipment upgrades. Please use the L4 lift within this building as an alternative route
14 - 15 April 2025 L77 lift, Networks Centre

The lift is out of service for essential maintenance. There will be no step-free access to levels 1, 2 and 5 on these dates. 

  • level 3 remains accessible from square 2, and level 4 via the square 2 bridge
  • for access to square level from underpodia please make use of the lifts in the STEM or Psychology buildings
  • access from square 1 to square 2 is available via the lifts in the STEM building 
23 April 2025 STEM Maintenance will be undertaken to both lifts in this building. Only one lift will be worked on at a time, maintaining step-free access through the building at all times

Works across campus

24 March - 04 April 2025
 Lecture Theatre Building
 Abseiling for hammer testing and concrete inspections will be taking place on these dates. There will be tunnels erected to ensure access remains open to building and there will be minimal noise throughout.
24 March  - 04 April Lakeside Theatre
 Paving works alongside the Lakeside Theatre (between the Library and Silberrad buildings) to resolve water ingress issues. Some noise expected from these works. Alternative study spaces are available across campus if needed.
24 March - 17 April 2025
 North Teaching Centre
 Replacement of the hot water system, including boiler, cylinders and building management system. Intermittent noise form drilling and fixing. No hot water to this building - please make use of the facilities in the Causeway Teaching Centre instead. 
31 March - 01 April 2025
 Sports Arena The pathway between the Sports Arena and Sports Centre will be closed to allow lifting machinery access to undertake repairs to the roof of the Arena. Signage will be in place to direct pedestrian traffic to the alternative pathways around these buildings.
31 March - 02 April 2025 Underpodia road

A compressor will be used to break up damaged tarmac near the following locations underpodia. This will generate a high level of noise

  • Central stores
  • Post room 
  • Library/ Lakeside Theatre 

Fresh air intakes to nearby buildings will be isolated while new tarmac is laid to minimise impact from the smell. Deliveries and access to underpodia will not be impacted due to use of localised traffic management and banksmen
03 April 2025 Boundary road / North Towers road junction Replacement of damaged pedestrian barrier on the pavement of this junction. A compressor will be used to break up damaged tarmac, generating a high level of noise. 
07 - 11 April 2025
 Main Academic Building
 Works at high level via abseiling to remove and replace damaged mastic, to prevent future water ingress. Minimal visual or audio disturbance expected. Localised traffic management will be in place.
17 April 2025 5S level 5(.png); accessible from the Square 4, 4SE entrance

Power shut down 5.00am-9.00am, impacting power and lighting to this location. Impacted areas include: 

  • The Office of the Vice-Chancellor
  • The level 5 Law corridor
  • Buffalo Joes 
24 April 2025
 Sports Centre
 Loss of water due to compliance cleaning works 8.00am-4.30pm. One side of the building will be closed in the morning, and the other side of the building in the afternoon. Signage will be in place to advise building users of alternative facilities.
25 April 2025
 Wivenhoe House Hotel
 Compliance cleaning works to the water tanks 8.00am-4.30pm.There will be no loss of water.

17 June 2024 -31 March 2025 South Courts Installation of solar panels. Some noise expected from impact drivers during erection and dismantlement of scaffolding. Isolations of power and hot water will be communicated to residents ahead of time. 
31 March - 23 April 2025 Brighlingsea Court Painting of internal fire doors throughout Brightlingsea Court accommodation areas. 
01 May 2025 Walton Court, House 1 and 6
 Loss of water in bathrooms due to compliance cleaning works 8.00am-4.30pm. Drinking water and kitchen taps will still be in use during this time.
02 May 2025 Walton Court, House 5 and 7
 Loss of water in bathrooms due to compliance cleaning works 8.00am-4.30pm. Drinking water and kitchen taps will still be in use during this time.
