There are regular meetings of Heads of Academic Departments, Deans, Heads of Professional Services, University Steering Group members and other senior managers. Meetings are listed in the Academic Year Diary and minutes are circulated to members following meetings and published.
The meetings provide an opportunity for the senior leadership of the University to raise and discuss significant issues, for members to be kept informed of, and contribute insights to, significant projects and initiatives, and for consultation, discussion and communication of key issues in the leadership and management of the University.
Suggestions for items for discussion are welcome and should be emailed to dvc@essex.ac.uk. Agendas are approved by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor a few weeks in advance of meetings.
The Vice-Chancellor meets with all Heads of Schools/Departments and Heads of Professional Services Sections on a termly basis. Meetings are listed in the Academic Year Diary.
The purpose of these meetings is to ensure a ‘one University’ approach to conversations on topical strategic issues, to pool knowledge and ideas, and ensure that collective thinking is helping to shape institutional views on important issues.
The aim is for Heads of Schools/Departments and Heads of Professional Services Sections to drive the agenda so suggested topics for discussion are welcome at any time (please send to illsmp@essex.ac.uk) as well as being requested in advance of each meeting.
The agenda is coordinated by the Chief of Staff and circulated in advance so that attendees have time to reflect on the issues prior to the meetings There are no formal minutes. The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and Secretary and Chief of Staff also attend the meeting.
