Our graduates play a vital role in supporting our current students, and recruiting new ones, in many ways, including mentoring, offering placements, wider support with employability, visiting lectures and talks, as well as sitting on committees and advising us on course developments. There are over 125,000 Essex graduates across the world, and the Alumni Relations team maintain a relationship with this global network of alumni.
The Advancement team, which includes Alumni Relations, have responsibility for maintaining an alumni community who are ambassadors for the University. They manage the ever-growing alumni database, update individual communication preferences, and keep alumni informed over their lifetimes. As a University, we must make sure we’re adhering to the UK General Data Protection Regulations (UK GDPR), so it is important that we don’t contact a graduate who has asked not to receive communication from the University. This can often happen when colleagues source contact details from out-of-date sources such as ESIS or locally-held spreadsheets, which is why we ask that anyone wishing to contact alumni consults with us first.
