Research networks and events

There are a range of networking events and opportunities to support your research ambitions. Find out more about how you can connect with others at Essex and with some of our strategic networks and partners below.

Institutional networks and events

Cross University Research events (CURE). Events where research expertise is shared across the University in TED style talks based on a theme.

Practice sharing. There could be discipline, Department/School or Faculty based opportunities to share practices that you are not aware of. Speak to your mentor, line manager or Director of Research to find out more about these in your context.

Mentoring for researchers. Some Departments/ Schools or Faculties have their own mentoring schemes for researchers. Speak to your mentor, line manager or Director of Research to find out more about this in your context. You can also search for a mentor through the Peer Mentoring Database. There is also a non-hierarchical Eastern ARC mentoring scheme where Researcher, Technician and Professional Services roles can work creatively with colleagues across the consortium. B.A.M.E employees can also identify a mentor through the B.A.M.E. Forum Mentoring Scheme. 

The Newcomers Network - a support network for early career researchers, co-run by the Library, Research and Enterprise Office, and UK Data Archive. Sign up to the mailing list for updates on training.

The UK Reproducibility Network (UKRN): Join our local network for the UKRN to be part of a community of Essex researchers from across disciplines who are interested in open and reproducible research.

Impact Leaders Forum – a network for Directors of Impact and related Impact Leads from across schools and departments. They come together once a term to share best practice and keep up to date with the latest impact developments. Contact the Research Impact Manager (kbadcock@essex.ac.uk)

Impact Academy – training delivered by the Essex impact team and external providers on ll elements of engagement and impact, from policy engagement to how to write about impact in funding applications to evidencing any impact that occurs.

Essex Research Impact toolkit - The Research Impact Toolkit hosted on Essex Moodle provides a suite of tools and resources to help you start planning an impact strategy and make developing research impact an integral part of your research practice. The toolkit is a comprehensive and in-depth resource for researchers

National and international networks and events

  • Eastern ARC mentoring. This is a strategic collaboration between the Universities of East Anglia, Essex, Kent and Sussex that offers opportunity for researchers to engage with events and mentoring. There are a number of Eastern Arc events that include online debates, discussions and information events to help colleagues across the consortium. There is also a non-hierarchical Eastern ARC mentoring mentoring scheme where researchers, Technicians and Professional Services can work creatively with colleagues across the consortium.
  • Advance HE Research Leadership development A suite of research-based tools that can be used by individuals to develop impact with their research can be accessed on Advance HE’s Research Leaders Impact Toolkit. Advance HE also deliver leadership programmes for early career people who identify as a woman (Aurora) or from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds (Diversifying Leadership) that are about to, or are aspiring, to take their first steps in a leadership role.
  • Horizon Europe Information about collaborations and European partners in Horizon Europe.
  • YUFE (Young Universities for the Future of Europe). There are opportunities for early career researchers to engage with researchers at other YUFE partner institutions.
