Parental leave (unpaid)

Unpaid parental leave is a right to take time off work to look after a child or to make arrangements for a child’s welfare.

You can take unpaid parental leave to look after your child’s welfare, for example to:

  • spend more time with your children
  • look at new schools settle children into new childcare arrangements
  • spend more time with family – e.g. visiting grandparents
