Excellence in Education Award

The Excellence in Education Award (EEA) is inspired by the University’s mission to achieve excellence in both education and research. We aim to provide students with a transformational education experience and intellectually challenging and stimulating courses that are based on creative and innovative approaches.

The EEA recognises and celebrates our institutional commitment to enabling our students to contribute positively to communities and societies around them.

Award categories

There are four categories of the EEA available. All, apart from the Student Recognition category (which can be engaged with via a dedicated form available from Moodle or upon request via eea@essex.ac.uk), can be applied to as a self- or peer-nomination.

  1. Excellent Assistant Lecturer and Graduate Laboratory Assistant Award (individual).
  2. Excellent Educator Award (individual or collaborative) - open to academics and professional services and technicians with educator roles.
  3. Excellence in Education Leadership Award (individual) - open to academics and professional services and technicians with educator roles.
  4. Student Recognition – used by students only to recognise those individual members of staff or teams that are considered inspiring in their approach to teaching and learning support. For this category, there is no panel-considered award bestowed upon a particular winner but rather, all individuals named by students will be recognised.

Who can apply?

All full- and part-time employees with a responsibility for supporting the student learning experience are eligible to apply. This includes technicians with an educator role, Professional Services employees in supporting roles, employees supporting the delivery of apprenticeships, academic employees, Assistant Lecturers, and Graduate Laboratory Assistants. Applicants from UK Essex partner institutions are also welcome to apply.
